Dr. Bill Burwell MEDIA RELEASE October 14th, 2009 The Bonnechere Manor Foundation is thrilled to have Dr. Bill Burwell join them as their new Honorary Chair for the Bonnechere Manor Centre Fundraising Campaign! The Campaign, raising $350,000 towards a 3,200 sq foot addition to the Bonnechere Manor, aims to enhance the lives of the residents by providing the much-needed space to hold large group events with family, staff and the community. Having Dr. Burwell join the Bonnechere Manor Centre Campaign “is a great privillege” says Don Goulet, Foundation Chair. Upon asking Dr. Burwell if he would be interested in joining the Campaign, “there was no hesitation” states Board of Directors’, Sheila Kemp. “He wanted to be part of the team to give back to the Manor.”
Dr. Burwell was born and raised in Renfrew and has strong ties to the surrounding community. He has long been attached to the Bonnechere Manor, as he became the Manor’s first Medical Director in 1958. After servicing the residents of the Manor for 38 years, Dr. Burwell retired from his position in 1996, however looks back on his days with many pleasant and warm memories. “The Bonnechere Manor was apart of my life for many years… in fact, it was my life, filled with many enjoyable and good times.” Dr. Burwell reflected that he used to bring the residents and staff out to his property for various parties and celebrations. “My biggest memory is that the staff always had compassion for the residents; they must miss the place like I do.” Dr. Burwell adds that becoming the Honorary Chair of the Campaign is one way in which he can give and come back to the Bonnechere Manor.
The Bonnechere Manor and Foundation is holding a special inauguration this Friday for Dr. Burwell’s welcomed return home. All are welcome to attend. |
